Snowy Hillside

Snowy Hillside 16" x 20" oil on canvas

Lately I've been enjoying how shadows describe time and space, I always think back to my landscape teacher emphasizing how important shadow shapes are for landscapes. This is a view out my window so I was constantly fighting the sun as it was setting.

Snowfall 16" x 20" acrylic on canvas

I painted this from my window around dusk, everything was fading into a blue shade. It reminds me of a Robert Frost poem about the woods on a snowy evening being lovely, dark and deep.

Into the Woods

Into the Woods 24" x 24" oil on canvas

I enjoy the idea of mixing realism with abstraction, especially with days that have a thick atmosphere, it's a kind of whitewash effect. The tops of the trees really appeal to me, I like how the branches mix with the sky.
