Ohio Frost

Ohio Frost 6" x 6" oil on .75" thick masonite
These are some woods near my house that are in front of a field, it has a snow covered mound in the middle. My favorite area is the tops of the trees, the part where the leaves mix with the sky. Dense woods always elicit a feeling of mystery, of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are dark, deep and lovely.

Alliterations flow off the tongue smoothly, I think that titles should be poetic. My painting teachers always told me to look at poetry for imagery, like how gold always portrays luxury and red represents temptation for food. This piece is different in person, the light picks up the silver and gold, I put quite a bit of metallic paint in the cake. I entered this in at my local Utrecht for a people's choice competition, the theme was to use gold/silver/copper paint, I'm excited to see what everyone else did!

Here's another fancy cake I got from a local chocolate shop. This cake totally melted before my eyes, it made me paint much faster. These paintings remind me of Wayne Thiebaud, that blue/purple always feels so happy and joyous.

White Chocolate Raspberry Delight

White Chocolate Raspberry Delight 6" x 6" oil on 1.5" thick canvas, painting wraps around edges, signed on side
I've never eaten something so decadent, it's like out of the rococo period or something.  This raspberry iced dessert has white chocolate sides with chocolate mousse on the inside with a little wafer on the bottom; those little ornaments on the top were chocolate too! Anyway, about the painting, I feel heavily influenced by Wayne Thiebaud, I love the pop-art quality. I like the happy feeling associated with that purple/blue/pink color, it creates a jubilant atmosphere. I also like observing the color choices the chef had made, like that pale green juxtaposed against the alizarin crimson. The top of the cake is an effective sculpture because it looks like a playground, if you imagined yourself mini.
