Wabi-Sabi

Wabi-Sabi 6" x 8" oil on canvas
Wabi-Sabi is an aesthetic which focuses on imperfection and asymmetry, it's a Buddhist concept that centers on transience and acceptance. I used to blown glass in college and this is one of my vases, it has so many bumps and thicknesses, but at least it stands. I will have a better picture tomorrow, there's really nothing better than outdoor lighting.

Roman Statue

Roman Statue  4" x 6" oil on canvas

I made this for a challenge on dailypaintworks, I have an ample supply  of statue imagery from studying abroad in Rome. It was interesting to see all the different Roman fashions, the hair could get quite tall on the women. It's fun to think about how old these ancient portraits are, stone can last so much longer than paint.

Blue Abyss

Blue Abyss 30" x 36" acrylic on canvas
Here's another abstract for an office space, cobalt blue is the color of the company's logo. I like the subtleties in this painting, the chroma creates a nice glow in person.

Bowl of Oranges

Bowl of Oranges 6" x 6" oil on masonite

This is quite a neoclassical subject matter, usually a bowl of fruit is what comes to mind with still life. I like the positioning of the right orange, it sits comfortably in the composition.

Get Crackin'

Get Crackin' 6" x 6" oil on masonite

This is the first time I've painted cracked eggs! I like the opal color of the egg shell, it can pick up dark purples as well as warm neutrals. I also enjoy the subtle hint of of the yoke on the plate.

Majestic Ohio

Majestic Ohio 60" x 24" oil on barn window
Here's a scene that I've painted a lot, it's a view outside my parent's neighbor. I still think I haven't done the scene the justice, I am planning on doing a huge plein-air painting of it.
This is my 100th post! What a long strange trip it's been :)

Misty Farm

Misty Farm 27" x 28" oil on glass window
I went out on a rainy day and took a lot of photos of farmland, there's a park near my apartment and if you venture a little further there's a farm. This rural scene feels very moody! I like feeling the breeze, I always feel like it was pity I wasn't standing in the rain while painting it.

Under the Sea

Under the Sea 24" x 30" x 1.5"  acrylic on canvas
This is another artwork I did for an office space. I painted this piece while looking at various images of the sea, I placed the colors I saw into a composition. In a way, it's what you would see under the sea without goggles, perhaps only seeing the colors through blurred vision. I feel like abstract paintings describe how we perceive reality since it brings together perception and association.

Rain Streaks

Rain Streaks 24" x 36" acrylic on canvas
This painting is for an office,  it's right next to a window so it has ample source of daylight. The natural light brings out a lot of the subtleties, even more so since it has an analogous color scheme. I like how the composition plays off of the vertical shape of the piece.

Spring Fog

Spring Fog  28" x 27" oil on glass barn window
My uncle gave me a few barn windows to paint farm scenes on, I love the blue color of the frame! It's quite challenging to paint on old 1800's barn windows because of the glass drooping, making it thicker in some places.

Between Land and Sea

Between Land and Sea 24" x 24" acrylic on canvas
I did this piece for the gallery, I was thinking a lot about beaches, along with aquatic colors. I love that shade of green, it's so cheerful!
