Peacock Amidst Rowan Trees 12" x 12" oil on 3/4" cradled masonite
This was a piece that was commissioned by my mom for my aunt Rowan's birthday. She had mentioned that she wanted something kind of eastern, so I thought back to when I did some manuscript looking things when I was in Italy. When I was in Sienna, I saw a manuscript illumination with the most delicate rendering of a peacock, just playfully dancing in the border. Plus I've been wanting to break into my gold leaf and get to glidin'! After I was done painting the peacock I traced the peacock with glue, then I laid whole squares of gold down.I also burnished the gold into the canvas before removing excess gold.
